MY Yoga Journey

My yoga journey began in 2009, when I first attended Vedanta classes. Through these teachings, I was introduced to yogic philosophy and its foundational concepts, which later led me to the physical practice of yogāsana. Curious to explore further, I began attending lunchtime yoga classes at my workplace in 2013. These sessions deepened my understanding of my body, posture, and alignment, while also offering a much-needed pause from the demands of a desk-based corporate role. Alongside my ongoing Vedanta studies, I slowly began to see the connections between philosophy and physical practice.

It wasn’t until 2018, however, that this connection truly came to life. During a particularly stressful period at work that began to impact my health, I booked my first yoga retreat - a short weekend away that became a turning point. Here, the teacher seamlessly wove together yogic philosophy and physical practice, finally bridging the gap for me. I experienced first-hand how yoga cultivates stillness, balance, and presence amidst the chaos of modern life, and how principles such as non-violence and truthfulness can be embodied on the mat and lived beyond it.

This retreat transformed my relationship with yoga and highlighted its profound support for stress and mental well-being. My practice began to evolve, helping me manage stress more effectively, reflect deeply, and turn inward. My continued Vedanta studies amplified this transformation, shaping my outlook and way of being. Together, these experiences inspired a clear intention: to support others through the path of yoga.

When the pandemic arrived in 2020, I felt called to undertake formal teacher training, and in 2021 I embarked on a 16-month, 200-hour yoga teacher training with YogaCampus. I completed the programme the following year. The ethos of the course, making yoga accessible to all, deeply resonated with me and aligned with my own values and experiences.

Teacher training is a journey in itself - one of self-inquiry and inner exploration. Each person’s path through yoga is unique, and this process is something we all walk in our own way. During this time, I balanced a full-time corporate role alongside family life, voluntary service (seva), and a consistent personal sādhanā. With the support of my family, friends, teachers, mentors, peers, and the blessings of my Guru, I was able to navigate this period with grace and commitment. I remain deeply grateful for their continued guidance and support.

Since qualifying, I have been teaching locally to refine and deepen my skills as a teacher, while continuing my own professional, personal and spiritual development. It is an absolute privilege to be an instrument in supporting others on their individual journeys.

Yoga is something I am deeply passionate about. It has offered me a safe space, a steady anchor, and a grounding presence through life’s many storms. My relationship with yoga continues to unfold each day as I move through life with curiosity, awareness, and openness.

Yogasāra means “the Essence of Yoga.” This name reflects and embodies my approach to both practice and teaching, by inviting students to journey inward, connect with their deeper self, and explore the heart of yoga as they root, flow, and rise.
